The Human Relief Project is a 501c3 organization with a goal of providing emergency and long-term disaster relief. Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, we service communities in need throughout the world.
Disaster relief is unique in that it requires immediate large-scale efforts. Unlike most charitable organizations that have established programs in specific locations throughout the world, we never know when we will have to engage or where that will be. This makes our jobs both exciting and challenging. It is exciting because we are constantly starting new projects, and challenging in that we must constantly have an abundance of resources available to react quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
We need your help now more than ever! Our goal is not to touch a few lives, but to make measurable differences in thousands of lives. The past several years have seen a multitude of emergency situations, from the 2004 Tsunami in Asia to recent earthquakes in Chile and Haiti, we are continuously being confronted with emergency situations. Our specialty is addressing the needs of displaced persons. The 2010 earthquake Haiti alone created an estimated 300,000 temporary or permanently homeless people.
However devastating these disasters can be to the lives of those who have lost loved ones, livelihoods and land, we have the ability to assist these people in transforming their lives. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “when it is dark enough, you can see the stars.” We believe that from the depths of despair can come some of the most exciting opportunities for growth and rehabilitation. This is precisely why we have designed our projects so that they combine immediate disaster relief responses with long term plans to revive people, economies and the land.
